What LingoSlam handles

When you enable the Chrome extension on a supported video site, it can read the active page URL, video or episode identifier, title, selected subtitle language, subtitle timing, and subtitle text. This information is used to align subtitles and create the course you request.

If you explicitly connect the extension to a LingoSlam account, we also handle your display name, learning language, native language, level, pace, opened Netflix episodes, course scores, missed words and questions, deck cards, room membership, and room progress. Google supplies the account identity used to sign in; LingoSlam does not receive your Google password.

Pairing creates a temporary controller session containing playback status, the current subtitle, course state, and commands needed to run the paired controller. Short-lived transfer tokens are used when you choose to save an extension result to the website.

AI and speech features

Subtitle text, language settings, selected words, and target-language phrases may be sent to LingoSlam's AI provider to generate course explanations, translations, questions, and synthetic pronunciation. We use that data only to provide the learning features you request.

If you add private homework to a Netflix episode, the PDFs, Word documents, text files, or images you select are sent to LingoSlam's AI provider to create the requested supplemental study pack. LingoSlam stores the original files in private account-scoped storage so you can regenerate the pack later, along with the derived pack and filenames. Replacing or removing that episode's homework removes its saved source files.

Speech practice is optional. Chrome's browser speech-recognition service may process microphone audio under Chrome's own terms. The extension uses the resulting transcript to provide practice feedback. Dub It audio remains on your device unless you preview it and explicitly choose “Share with room.” A shared recording, its target phrase, and its recognized transcript are then stored for members of that series room.

Dub Roulette is a separate, turn-based room mode. Recording begins only after the active player taps the microphone control. Tapping “Stop & submit” uploads that performance to the current room so it can play for the other room members and receive reactions. LingoSlam stores the submitted clip with the round; it does not sell it, use it to train an AI model, or consume a course-generation credit.

Standalone TV mode uses the phone browser's speech-recognition service to compare nearby TV dialogue with timed subtitle text. LingoSlam uses the returned transcript to estimate episode position; it does not store the live TV microphone audio or transcript. TV mode uses timed subtitle tracks previously prepared through LingoSlam course generation; it does not ask the phone user to upload subtitle files.

When a learner records a Mandarin pronunciation attempt, the recording is sent to LingoSlam's private Tone.me analysis worker only after the recording ends. The worker analyzes syllable tones and pitch contours in memory and does not persist the audio. Tone analysis is experimental and currently available only for Mandarin.

Storage and service providers

LingoSlam uses contracted authentication, database, hosting, AI, and subtitle-service providers to operate the product. A subtitle provider may receive the requested title, season, episode, and language from the LingoSlam server. Extension credentials and provider API keys are not placed in the downloadable Chrome extension.

Account profiles and learning progress are retained while the account is active. Generated course and transcript artifacts may be retained so a course can be reused without repeating generation. Extension account connections expire after 90 days. Result-transfer links expire after 10 minutes, and controller sessions are temporary. Operational logs and backups are retained only as needed for security and reliable service.

PayPal processes paid-plan subscription checkout and payment details under its own privacy terms. LingoSlam receives and stores the PayPal subscription identifier, plan, status, and paid-through date so it can provide and cancel paid access. LingoSlam does not receive or store your card number, bank credentials, or PayPal password.

PostHog processes website page views and explicit product-usage events from the website and enabled browser extension so we can measure whether LingoSlam's learning features are useful and reliable. These events can include browser and device metadata, page URL on the website, coarse counts such as cards due or questions answered, review outcomes, course and popup status, game type, pairing status, and a stable account or anonymous extension identifier. We do not send vocabulary, subtitle or transcript text, video or episode titles, display names, email addresses, or audio recordings to PostHog. Automatic interaction capture and session recording are disabled.

Your choices

• LingoSlam remains inactive until you accept its data-use notice in the Chrome toolbar popup.
• Account connection is optional and requires a separate confirmation in Settings.
• You can disconnect extension access at any time from Settings.
• You can remove the extension and its locally stored preferences through Chrome.
• You can replace, regenerate, or remove a private homework pack and its saved source files from its episode in My Netflix or the connected extension.
• Dub It recordings are private by default and are shared one recording at a time only after you confirm.
• Dub Roulette shares a clip only when the active player taps “Stop & submit”; microphone audio is never streamed live to the room.
• Standalone TV listening can be paused at any time, and pronunciation recording is a separate action after the scene.
• You can request access to or deletion of account data through the LingoSlam support page.

What we do not do

LingoSlam does not sell personal data, use learning or browsing data for targeted advertising, run ad trackers, or use data obtained from the extension for credit, lending, insurance, or employment decisions.

The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
